"It Must Be My Metabolism": Nutrition to Maintain Muscle Mid-life and Beyond | Heidi Skolnik

Description

ABSTRACT
Nutritional needs change as we age. As our years advance, muscle loss and anabolic resistance occur. Maintaining muscle is associated with a multitude of health benefits, including better cognitive function, bone health, and blood sugar control, yet most adults 50 and older have no idea what nutritional patterns they can employ to maintain muscle as well as which specific nutrients and foods to include in their diets to support health and well-being as they age . This session will outline simple nutritinal strategies to overcome muscle loss and anabolic resistance, as well as identify which type of movement is most important to preserve health and strength as we age.

OBJECTIVES
Following this session, participants will be able to:

  1. dispel the myth of altered metabolism and weight gain with age.
  2. recognize the role muscle maintenance can play in health outcomes.
  3. identify dietary strategies and exercises that help maintain muscle with aging.

NOTE: "Registration" for individual sessions is not required. Once onsite, you may attend any sessions on the day(s) for which you are registered.
