Environmental racism is a public health crisis. This webinar will explore the intersection of climate change, sustainability, and public health. Specifically, we will examine how environmental factors impact individuals' health and well-being. Using data derived from evidence-based research, we will discuss how environmental racism disproportionately
burdens low-wealth and black and brown communities, and we will identify how various policies and draconian practices are contributing to health disparities.Information provided will help health and wellness professionals better understand the critical role various sectors should play in mitigating the climate crisis and improving the well-being of the populations they serve. Attendees will be provided climate change mitigation strategies to advocate for health equity and improve overall well-being.

Crystal Dixon, MA, MPH, MCHES, NBC-HWC, Associate Professor of Practice, Wake Forest University
Crystal T. Dixon, MPH, MA is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University (WFU) and an affiliate faculty member of the Race Inequality Policy Initiative at WFU. Her expertise focuses on the intersection of environmental racism, sustainability, and public health. As the Founder of Mango Consulting, she consults on institutionalizing equity and sustainability into corporate and organizational practices. Crystal has contributed to multiple research projects and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications. Her current research explores the intersection of climate change, disaster resilience, and public health in the Caribbean.
Crystal is a strong advocate for transparency and accountability of institutional systems, policies, and practices. She serves as a Governing Councilor of the Environment section within the American Public Health Association (APHA) where she co-authored and passed the first policy brief calling for the assessment and oversight of healthcare waste as an environmental justice concern. She is also an active member of the Greensboro Health Disparities Collaborative and currently serves on the Board of Directors for CleanAIRE NC and The Partnership Project.
