Course Description
Learn innovative approaches to increase the effectiveness of wellness programs, practices, and initiatives through inclusive communication and collaboration. We will explore key methods for engaging a variety of stakeholders in strategic communication practices for enhanced connection and well-being. Discover how using the strengths of interdisciplinary teams, organizational development, and communities can lead to better outcomes.

This course is one of nine eLearning courses intentionally designed to support competency-building in the five domains of the NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model. Specifically, this is the first of two courses that support the model's “Communication & Collaboration" domain. The model serves as the standard for the Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) certification.
Competencies and Learning Objectives
This course supports the following wellness promotion competencies:
    • Recognize the influence of organizational development, leadership, and culture on individual wellness.
    • Articulate to key stakeholders the value of wellness for individuals and how it supports the organization's and/or community's mission, purpose, and strategic goals.
    • Establish collaborative relationships and interdisciplinary teams to promote sustainable wellness practices that meet long-term individual, organizational, and/or community goals.
    • Use meaningful and inclusive communication methods and technologies to support, manage, and promote wellness initiatives.

Who Should Attend?
This course is intentionally designed for individuals seeking professional development in the "Communication & Collaboration" domain of the NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model. It is applicable to those working as individual practitioners as well as professionals who promote wellness within organizations and communities.
Continuing Education Credit (CEC)
This course is eligible for 3 CECs and pre-approved for: NWI CWP (Category 1), ACSM, CHES/MCHES (Category I CC), HRCI, NBC-HWC, SHRM-CP, & SHRM-SCP. View NWI's CEC Info page for more details.
Course Requirements
This self-paced interactive eLearning course must be completed within four weeks of registering. Within the course, you’ll find knowledge checks or activities to enhance your learning as well as a variety of tools and resources you can apply in your work.

Time to complete the course varies by learner, but we suggest planning for a total of three to five hours to complete all the learning elements, including any application activities and self-reflections. You must complete the full online course and submit the course evaluation to earn your certificate indicating the number of continuing education credits earned.
Content Developer: Sallie Scovill, PhD, CWP
Dr. Scovill is a Professor in the School of Health Science and Wellness, College of Professional Studies, University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. Sallie oversees the employee wellness program at UWSP, which was awarded a Bronze Level Award from the Governor’s Worksite Wellness Program. Sallie is also a faculty for the National Wellness Institute’s Worksite Wellness Specialist Certificate course and is a board member for the Wellness Council of Wisconsin. Sallie has been working in the field of wellness for 33 years. She is Yoga Alliance certified instructor, has taught group fitness for 32 years, completed training in resilience from the Organization Wellness and Learning Systems, certified in Mental Health First Aid, and utilizes the VIA Character Strengths to assist students grow more resilient using their unique character strengths.
