Course Description
Acquire strategies for designing tailored and targeted methods to influence positive holistic change in others by participating in this interactive eLearning course. We explore evidence-based and culturally competent processes to implement person-centered approaches for communication, education, behavior change, and program development.

COMPETENCIES
This course supports the following competencies within the “Whole-person and Systems Approaches" domain of the NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model:
    • Adopt person-centered communication practices that consider the whole person, recognizing the influence factors such as socio-demographic variables and worldview have on the communication process.
    • Provide developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant evidence-based information to educate individuals and the public about wellness.
    • Use appropriate techniques (e.g., strengths-based, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral) to encourage individuals to be active participants in their personal wellness journeys.
    • Use participatory, humanistic, and strengths-based processes to design opportunities that will lead toward achieving established objectives and outcomes.

Following this course, you will be able to:
    • Determine factors (e.g., personal, cultural biases, or values) that can influence an individual’s worldview.
    • Recognize major factors of person-centered communication practices.
    • Develop communication approaches to tailor messages for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Determine methods to select information for individuals based on content and appropriateness.
    • Develop methods to employ culturally relevant wellness education to individuals and the public.
    • Define elements outlined in participatory techniques.
    • Demonstrate how a strengths-based technique can be used to achieve established objectives and outcomes.
    • Describe how applying a humanistic approach can be used to achieve established objectives and outcomes.
    • List techniques that support an individual’s autonomy in their personal wellness behaviors.
    • Describe how employing a strengths-based, humanistic, or cognitive-behavioral technique can encourage individuals to be active participants in their personal wellness journey.

Christine is a strong advocate of delivering Health Coaching access and benefits to all populations. Through the employer-sponsored program, developed by Hinge Health, she pursues her dream of supporting a team of health coaches through innovative and scalable strategies. She also teaches Health Coaching Foundations through the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and contributes to coursework development through the National Wellness Institute.
