NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Domain Course Package: Authenticity & Self-awareness

The National Wellness Institute offers nine interactive online Wellness Promotion Competency Model Courses intentionally designed to support knowledge acquisition and skill-building in the five competency domains of the NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model. The two courses in this package are developed for individuals seeking professional development in the model's first competency domain: "Authenticity & Self-awareness."
About the Courses
  • Course #1: Building Self-awareness & Multidimensional Wellness for Personal & Professional Growth
    Self-awareness is essential for effectively promoting multidimensional, multicultural wellness in yourself and others. This course employs reflective and interactive strategies and various forms of self-assessment to develop greater self-awareness and enhanced well-being. Knowing and caring for yourself leads to more supportive and influential relationships and more authentic role-modeling. Gain skills and resources to develop a plan for personal and professional growth.

  • Course #2: Leading Well Through Authenticity, Autonomy, and Awareness
    No matter your role or your work setting, cultivating authentic relationships and understanding your professional scope of practice are foundational to being a “well” leader. Through the information, activities, and resources provided in this course, you will develop authentic, autonomy-supportive, and collaborative approaches that support positive change.
Competencies and Learning Objectives
The courses support the following wellness promotion competencies:
    • Engage in ongoing reflection to expand personal growth and professional development in multiple dimensions of wellness.
    • Demonstrate commitment to wellness promotion by modeling healthy lifestyle practices in multiple dimensions of wellness.
    • Establish authentic and autonomy-supportive relationships.
    • Recognize your own limitations in wellness promotion and refer individuals to other professionals when appropriate to support their wellness goals.

These courses are applicable to individual practitioners as well as anyone who promotes wellness within organizations or communities.

Continuing Education Credit (CEC)
Each course is eligible for 3 CECs and pre-approved for: NWI CWP (Category 1), ACSM, CHES/MCHES (Category I CC), HRCI, NBC-HWC, SHRM-CP, & SHRM-SCP. View NWI's CEC Info page for more details. You must complete the full lesson and submit the Course Evaluation + CEC Request form for each course before your course access ends to earn your continuing education credit certificate.
Completing the Courses
For the best learning experience, we recommend completing the courses in the order listed. Within these self-paced interactive eLearning courses, you’ll find knowledge checks or activities to enhance your learning as well as a variety of tools and resources you can apply in your work.

Time to complete the course varies by learner, but we suggest planning for a total of three to five hours for each course to complete all the learning elements, including any application activities and self-reflections.
About the NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model
The NWI Wellness Promotion Competency Model encompasses a total of 27 competencies and is a ground-breaking resource to aid in curriculum development, recruitment and hiring, continuing professional development, and certification in the wellness field.

NWI intentionally designed nine eLearning courses to support competency-building in the five domains of this competency model: (1) Authenticity and Self-awareness; (2) Whole-person and Systems Approaches; (3) Inclusive and Responsive Practices; (4) Communication and Connection; and (5) Legal and Ethical Principles.

The model serves as the standard for the Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) certification.
